Dearest family,

Thanks for the email. Its good to hear that things at home are going well. Still surviving. Well things are great here in Chile. Our ward here is getting stronger and stronger. The Lord has helped boost the membership by almost doubling what we had before. The members are receiving callings and becoming more firm in the faith. Its great to see the hand of the Lord in the work. We continue to blessed as missionaries when we show our obedience to Him. As we complete with our 20 contacts everyday, arrive on time at night and be 100% obedient, the Lord will follow through on His promise. Yesterday in church, a inactive member came to church for the first time in a while with her child that is 11 years old named Antony and said she would like us to help him be baptized. What a blessing to receive these gifts from the Lord, these opportunities to strengthen God´s children here in Chile and bring the gift of salvation to their souls. The Lord always puts people where they should be, whispers in their ears, nudges them to do what they should so that they can bless the lives of those around them. This week on Friday we will have the opportunity to baptize Fernando. He´s never been so excited and its wonderful to see the joy in the eyes of his mom as he makes the important decision in his life. Last night we had a Family Home Evening with an amazing family in the ward and with another family that still is investigating. The Spirit was so strong as she bore testimony and personal experiences in her life. I´m gaining a strong testimony of working with the members because they always have a stronger impact in the lives of those that are investigating.

Well I just want to leave with my testimony that I know this is the Lord´s work and this Church is the only true church of Jesus Christ in the world. I know the blessings that we recieve from the Gospel are real and everything that happens to us happens for a reason. I know the Lord prepares the way for everyone and if we accept His will, then our lives will be blessed more than we can imagine. I´m thankful for the strength to continue on here in Chile in the work of the Lord and I´ve never had a better time in my life. I love you all and hope all goes well. Hasta luego familia, chau,

Oh ps, the contact solution is so expensive down here that I think it would be cheaper if you guys bought 2 packs of two bottles of the Opti Free Replenish and sent it down here. That should last me the rest of the mission too because I use my glasses every other day. Thanks for everything! Also, conference is going to be awesome this weekend, prepare yourselves well! Chau,

Buenas días familia,

You guys sold the pontiac for 200 bucks??? What the heck, the parts are worth a lot more than that. Oh well, I´m glad you were able to help out our mexican neighbors. And whats with the alien on the roof? When I´m not there, all the crazy things happen. But crazy things are still happening here. We havent felt any aftershocks this week but we keep getting these up dates that we should have some big ones in the next few weeks. We´ll see what happens. And the missionaries from our ward aren´t dwindling.. We have the smith kid still, JD, Tyler, Ron, and now Jacob Hatch.. thats 5 moms besides you mother. Oh and wish Brendon happy birthday for me!

But things down here are great! Still having crazy experiences but thats the mission, and I love it! I had an experience here this week that made me realized while I´m here in Recoleta in the Chile Santiago North mission. I´m so greatful for the comforting reminders from the Lord that we´re where we should be and doing what we need to do. I know that I´m helping the very people the Lord sent me to help. Such a strong testimony booster it is to see the purposes of the Lord unfold. We´ve also been having a lot of success with the members and references. Our ward is getting fuller and fuller in sacrament and the members are receiving callings. Its a great sight to see. We are working with a 15 year old girl that is an orphan and has lived with nuns her whole life. Its definitely going to be difficult but she has the faith that she can do what God wants her to do. We´re preparing for the baptism of a 10 year old from Peru next week. It was a miracle that we even found them and I´m so grateful for the help we received to find him but his mother is now active in the Church and he´s so excited to be baptized. We also have many others that just need that testimony and faith to say yes, I want to be baptized. But the Lord is always preparing the hearts of our brothers and sisters and so we just need to find that people that are ready.

Well thanks for the emails. Its exciting that Dad´s gonna be a temple worker. Thats something great to be doing at this time. I hope everything goes well for you guys this week, keep busy, les amo!

ps: With the pictures, this one Chilean in between us is Eduardo who is the best member in the whole mission. He always helps us out and teaches with us. The other picture is me eating some purple goop which happens to be a Peruvian dessert. We teach a lot of people from Peru so we´re always familiar with a lot of peruvian food. This one won´t be on my list of desserts to try again.

Hola familia,

So this week has been great. We had found a Peruvian mother who is already a member and her son who is ten years old and has been waiting to be baptized for a while. She is now active and coming to church and her son (Fernando) is going to be baptized in a couple of weeks. Things have been going great with the work. We´re also teaching a Nigerian man that speaks english and he is progressing towards baptism. The Lord is putting people in our path in these moments and its great to find the people that are truly prepared for the Gospel. I know that the Lord keeps His promises when we do our part. But our part requires effort. We always feel so blessed when these things happen. We also found another Peruvian couple that are progressing towards baptism right now. There are a lot of people here that are from Peru, and they´re always really nice and acepting of the Gospel because they come from humbler circumstances. Also, President May came to our sacrament meeting this week which was fantastic. He bore strong testimony of the BoM and the daily things we need to do to increase our faith. He told us about the island Juan Fernandez, which is part of our mission and normally has a companion of missionaries there, about how it was hit by a tsunami after the earthquake. The missionaries were on high ground and so they are fine (they´re now here in Santiago because almost the whole island got destroyed by the wave). But he told about this picture he received from them. Theres a picture of a bunch of buildings and two large trees and then a picture after the tsunami, and everything is gone except for the two trees. He explained why they remained, because the trees had grown their roots deeper and deeper everyday until they became unmovable. What an awesome message that is for us, that we should grow our roots deeper and deeper everyday by reading, praying, pondering, and going to church, (in spanish its called LOMA, Leer Orar Meditar Asistir). I hope that I can improve my ability to do these everyday things and that you guys can too so that we can be unmovable in our faith.

So this week has been a little loco also. Yeah we felt a couple of rumblings on Friday. Those were more strong than usual. We were in the middle of studies when the house starts rumblin and jumblin again. It wasn´t nearly as bad as the first one but still quite exciting. Yeah we went to the mission home for Fase 3 which is basically the missionaries in their third transfer. The pizza hut was way different than usually but still pretty good. All the food is different here. And sorry your account was hijacked mom, hopefully President didn´t read that one haha. Well thanks for the emails and pictures and support. Les amo familia,

Holas...

Well thanks for the emails. I´m glad everything went well with grandma´s funeral and the whole family got together without too much comotion. So things down here were pretty crazy this week. This week we had to be in our pension before 8 oclock instead of 10 because of the crazy people out at night. Here in Recoleta things are pretty calm, but supposedly there are places that still don´t have water and people are robbing supermarkets and running out in the streets at night shooting guns. But don´t worry things are fine here. The missions in the southern part of Chile are hurting. A lot of missionaries lost their homes and are living in the churches with all the people. There arent very many houses left in Concepción. But everything is getting better and a lot of people are helping out with recovery. And no I wasn´t running in and out of the house, it was three in the morning, we went back to bed and were woken up by some small aftershocks. Speaking of, I think the last one was about 2 days ago around 10 pm. Its still weird to know the the earth can be shaking under your feet. I took one picture of a little distruction in our neighborhood but I have a lot more other pictures to send. We climbed the hill next to our sector and so I got some really good pictures of Santiago. Oh and I´m probably going to withdraw some money today. I want to get together a package for you guys. And and mom, Feliz Cumpleaños!! Happy birthday on the 5th. So that you don´t feel bad, I remembered March 3rd, two days before. Oh, and transfers were today but me and Elder Coats are still here in Recoleta for another 5 weeks.

Well all in all this week was great. We ended it with a baptism, Alvaro Railhet. We had stake conference down here and listened to Elder Bednar and the prophet. It was a great spiritual meeting. And then after we had to quickly organize this baptism and fill the font with cold water for Elder Coats. It was a great experience and Alvaro is helping is brother and mom reactivate. We´re working hard still after the earthquake. We´ve down a couple service projects here and there but most of all we´re teaching a lot. We´ve found a lot of families from Peru and they´re almost always receptive to the Gospel because they come from humbler circumstances. Yesterday we had a lesson with a black man from Nigeria that speaks English. It was interesting but really powerful. I know that the Spirit speaks to the hearts of the people in a diferent language than we use. It was hard to teach in English but it was great. In the end he accepted a date to be baptized at the end of this month. There are a lot of people who´s hearts have been softened by the quake. I know their is a lot of power in the hands of God to humble His people.

Well I hope all goes well with everyone. Les amo a todos. Tell the Kylee and Ashlee I love them and thanks for their concern. I hope Clayton can get rid of his pink eye and he needs to look for girls from his own graduating class, not mine. Chao, hasta luego,

Elder Webb

Monday March 1, 2010

Hola amigos,

So things have been interesting here the last few days. So we were sleeping peacefully in our apartment at about 3:30 in the morning Saturday when I woke up to my bed bouncing around like a toy. I shouted at Elder Coats to wake him up and he about freaked out. He said, Elder.. ¡¿Qué está pasando?! Basically, what the heck is going on?! It took me a little bit to realize it, but then I said.. terremoto! Earthquake! We couldn´t turn on the lights because the electricity was out and out little apartment is pitch dark at night. So I hopped up to find my flashlight. I could barely stand and things on shelves we´re starting to fall in the room. I grabbed my flashlight and we decided to run to the door frame and wait there. I can´t really explain what it was like but its nothing like you can imagine. The ground was rolling under our feet and the whole apartment was shaking and groaning and it was really loud, it seemed like it would fall down at any second. It went on for about another minute before finally fading away. Our little apartment was chaotic but everything was fine. We had so much adreneline we couldn´t go to sleep for a while. There were little aftershocks the whole day and yesterday. Those would just move your bed a little or make you feel dizzy. But it was quite the adventure. We didn´t have electricity in our apartment the whole day Saturday until the nightime. We werent allowed to leave the house the whole day Saturday. We had little cell service also. Yesterday when we left the house we saw what had happened. Apparently there were fires all around the city because the air was really bad. A couple houses in our neighborhood had collapsed but most are ok. There are a lot of fallen brick walls and stuff. Apparently our little neighborhood of Recoleta was a lot better off than others. The airport was left half destroyed I heard. And there are 700 people dead in Chile with a lot more still missing. The quake was about 200 miles south of Santiago, a lot closer to the city of Concepción. A lot of people there are suffering. Many members here have family in Concepción and so everyone is pretty worried around here but everything is getting better. Things are still a little bit crazy here. Theres not much food in the stores, the electicity is on and off but we´re fine. The work is a little bit slow but I think this will soften a lot of people´s hearts. We didn´t have our baptisms yesterday because the area presidency said that we couldn´t have meetings after sacrament. So atleast Alvaro is excited for his baptism next week. We didn´t have transfers today either. I don´t know when we´re going to have them but the new missionaries can´t come because the airport is closed right now. Everyone here in our mission is good. We´re excited to go do a lot of service and help people clean up this mess. Tell everyone thanks for the prayers and I love you all. I know grandma is doing well also, I´m glad that everything went smoothly and she´s finally resting. Gracias por todo! Chao
